Welcome to the Freedom Service Dogs (FSD) community!
At FSD, we believe dogs make a difference. Since our founding in Denver, Colorado, in 1987, we have purpose bred, raised, trained, matched, and partnered nearly 1,000 life-changing service dogs, facility dogs, and skilled companion dogs with veterans and first responders with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries, as well as individuals with physical disabilities or autism, and mental health and public safety professionals providing essential support to communities. And thanks to people like you, we place these furry heroes and provide lifetime support services to each of our clients at absolutely no cost to them!
For those we serve, our dogs are much more than just assistance animals—they’re partners, best friends, heroes, and lifelines who open doors of possibility and empower independence, confidence, and freedom.
As we celebrate nearly four decades of transforming lives, we would love you to join us in creating more of these partnerships! Here are some of the ways you can make a dog-sized difference for our mission:
Volunteer
The generous support of FSD volunteers who share their time and talents is what makes our mission possible. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, so there’s sure to be something that matches everyone’s interests, skills, and schedules, including:
- Puppy raising
- Fostering
- Puppy sitting
- Dog transportation
- Volunteering with us at community events
- Nursery volunteering
- Overnight nursery volunteering (perfect for those who work night shift!)
- Working with adult dogs and puppies onsite
- Adult dog enrichment
- Joining our Young Professionals Council
- Joining our Board of Directors
- And more!
We also offer corporate volunteer group opportunities to help keep our facility a safe and clean space for our service dogs, staff, and volunteers! If your company is interested in rolling up your sleeves and spending the day with us to make a difference, please reach out to our volunteer team.

Donate
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of our community to continue purpose breeding and custom training assistance dogs who empower people living with disabilities and others providing mental health and crisis support services. A gift of any amount allows us to continue providing the utmost care and training to each of our dogs, as well as place assistance dogs and offer lifetime support services free of charge to those we serve.

Join The Kibbles Club
Interested in making a recurring gift to support our mission? When you join The Kibbles Club, your monthly donation provides the stable funding we need to continue our vital work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- $16 per month can provide a month’s supply of training treats for our service dogs in training.
- $28 per month can provide a custom, speciality assistance dog vest.
- $50 per month can provide one month of basic obedience training for a puppy in the Prison Trained K-9 Companion Program.
- $84 per month can provide our service dogs in training with one month’s supply of much-needed medications and supplements.

Join our Forever Freedom Legacy Society
Whether you’re 18 or 80, there’s no time like the present to plan for your future! When you include FSD in your estate plan and become a member of our Forever Freedom Legacy Society (FFLS), you ensure our ability to continue partnering assistance dogs with those in need at no cost for many years to come.
We offer free estate planning tools that inform you about all the things a will does and the benefits that come with joining our FFLS.

Attend an FSD Fundraiser
We offer three fundraising events a year, including our annual Diamonds in the Ruff gala, which always has a new dazzling theme and boasts delicious food and drinks, entertainment, a stunning venue, interactive ways to learn about our mission, a live and silent auction, and the chance to win a sparkling diamond.
We also host three annual sporting clays tournaments, known as Faces of Freedom, in Denver, CO, Midland, TX, and Houston, TX. Friendly competition, barbeque lunch, a live auction, prizes, and the chance to hear the inspiring stories of our clients are a guarantee.

Name a Future Service Dog
Did you know that our assistance dogs are typically named by generous donors and traditionally named according to a litter theme? Past themes have included: Asian foods, Disney sidekicks, famous artists, breakfast foods, Fourth of July, Colorado, cartoon characters, airplanes, weather, and more!
Leave a legacy by giving a donation to name one of our future service dogs and/or choosing the theme of one of our litters!
