Nickname: Tater Bean

Breed: Labrador retriever

Source: Tater was one of four puppies born to Mochi, a rescue dog who was pregnant when she arrived at FSD in 2018. After attending Colorado’s Prison Trained K-9 Companion Program for four months, Tater was fostered by volunteer Cathy Kennedy in FSD’s Puppy-Raising Club. He is now working with FSD Trainer Lisa Krieger on advanced skills and has been matched with a U.S. veteran.

Identifying feature: His always happy and contagious smile

Personality: Smart, eager, playful, and loving

Superpower: Resting his head on people’s laps to comfort them

Silliest habit: Catching snowflakes with his tongue

Favorite thing he’s learning: Nudging people when they tap their toes or fingers

Favorite cue: “Leash” (Tater picks up his leash and places it in his handler’s hand)

Best quality: Wants to please

Happiest moment: Splashing in the kiddie pools and chasing the water from sprinklers

Future outlook: Service dog for a veteran with post-traumatic stress (PTS)
