This spring, we welcomed the first two litters of puppies born right here at Freedom Service Dogs—and now, it’s growing season in our Puppy Garden!
The precious pups in our training program receive lots of tender loving care—but that’s just the start of it. Cultivating a happy, healthy, and successful service dog candidate from birth to 14 months (the age at which they start advanced service dog training) requires a substantial financial investment that includes:
- Constant tending by specially trained staff, including early neurological stimulation to maximize their mental and physical development
- Ongoing veterinary care, including vaccinations, lab work, medications and supplements, X-rays, spay/neuter surgery, and more
- Two months in Colorado’s Prison Trained K-9 Companion Program to learn basic obedience and socialization
- Training equipment, treats, toys, and enrichment items

The seeds of our Puppy Garden have been planted, thanks to a generous $10,000 gift from The Piccinelli Family Fund—but we’re expecting to care for 15 to 20 puppies this year alone. Your generous support for these sweet puppies—and others on the way—will ensure that we can continue providing custom-trained service dogs to veterans, children, and other adults with disabilities, far into the future.
