It takes the effort and dedication of many volunteers to accomplish our mission of rescuing dogs to free people. Foster Parent
Foster Parents take dogs less than 18 months of age into their homes and provides basic obedience, manners, and socialization under the guidance of FSD trainers. This is an integral part of a future service dogs' life. To learn more about this position, please contact FSD at info@freedomservicedogs.org. This position will require some meeting and training time with FSD training staff.
Weekender
Weekenders take a dog home on the weekend to teach house and car manners, basic obedience, and to help socialize dogs. Additionally, they prepare dogs-in-training to pass AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone who loves dogs, but whose work/life schedule prevents them from being a full-time owner. Position requires some training time with FSD trainers.
Weekend Walker
Weekend walkers walk and play with dogs that stay at FSD for the weekend. These opportunities must be scheduled each weekend with the FSD staff. Position requires some basic training with FSD staff.
Weekday Dog/Kennel Opportunities
General volunteer opportunities include walking dogs, kennel maintenance, grooming, and dog interaction.
General
General volunteer opportunities include assisting in the FSD office, grant writing, public demonstrations, fundraising, administrative support, writing articles for our newsletter, and much more. Please call our office for more information.
Youth Volunteers
We encourage kids of all ages to come volunteer at FSD, however, due to the nature of our facility we ask that all children under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or other responsible individual.
